Some shop ideas

So I'm finally getting a chance to start making things for my etsy shop. I've realized that it's probably most efficient to just make one sample (possibly for sale unless Katya objects too much!) and then let people custom order in the size they want.
No two colors say summer to me like navy blue and red, so crisp and fresh. I loved working with this lightweight navy twill. I'll try making another one in some lovely navy linen I have. Katya's got a new dress that she seems to like.

This photo session only cost me one piece of gum. I'll try again later for another shot of some skirts I've made. She needs a lot of rest between photo shoots, it seems!

Last week of school and sick

Today was Jan's last day of kindergarten and, although it's been a difficult year, I was feeling so sad all week. But today at pick up, perhaps because I had a sick child napping in the car, I just felt relief. We've decided to homeschool next year and see how it goes. I think the anticipation of not having school everyday has been much worse than the reality. I'm looking forward to a great summer and lots of exciting advertures with my little man next year. I'm glad I'll get a chance to try and remember what it's like to be six. A couple of fond kindergarten memories.....

Being an Egyptian at multicultural week

Poor Katya's been sick all week, which is always makes you feel so helpless as a parent and (on a entirely selfish note) makes it very hard to get any sewing done. Somehow, however, I managed to make a couple of things while she slept.

A dress up tutu always makes one feel better when drinking medicine, along with a favorite giraffe. I'd like to put some of these in my etsy shop (coming soon).

A simple summer dress made from an IKEA duvet cover. It's such a cute, comfortable style. I'd also like to put some of these in my shop.

I have so much sewing to do and I'm itching to get going. I'm making a bag for Jan's kindergarden teacher, a lap quilt for a neighbor, and three items for an order. Oh and Katya's somehow talked me into starting a princess dress for her (and I promised I wouldn't ge sucked into this princess stuff, but it's so hard to resist!). I am so going overboard for next year's birthday party!

Disneyland

We're off to the happiest place on earth until Friday. The kids are so excited, I wish I could say the same! It will be fun I'm sure; I just need to keep Katya away from those princess shops because I'm NOT spending my money on that stuff.

Six

My beautiful boy just turned six a few weeks ago and I swear I love him more each day. So far, six is the best age yet (but I'm sure I say that every year!). We love you to pieces, little goose.

Hello world!

I've finally gotten my blog up and running (i.e., out of my head and into cyberspace!) thanks to my heroic husband who stayed up late to help his technophobic wife! I'm looking forward to recording little bits of my life as a stay-at-home mom and obsessive-compulsive sewer.
